Alchemy

Alchemy is “Renkinjutsu” in Japanese.

The kanji REN means to forge or strengthen. KIN means gold, and JUTSU means technic.

The whole Kanji characters make the meaning of “how to produce gold”. It’s exactly what alchemy is, right?

When you add the kanji “SHI”, it means an alchemist.

The Kanji SHI means a person who has some special skills or professional knowledge.

Philosopher's stone

A philospher’s stone is the key item in the story. We call it “Kenja No Ishi” in Japanese.

KENJA means a philosopher. The Kanji KEN means wise and JA means a person, which makes the word KENJA a wise man.

NO (written in Hiragana) is equivalent to “of” in English. ISHI means stone.

An equivalent trade is “Toukakoukan”.

TOU means equal, KA means value or price, KOUKAN means to change.
