Hi, it’s Junko from Japan. As for the name meaning of FUSHIGURO MEGUMI in Jujutsu Kaisen, FUSHIGURO is the name of the plant, and MEGUMI is a common name mainly for girls. I’ll explain what each Kanji symbol stands for!
First Name MEGUMI

- blessed, gifted
- grant favor to someone, care for someone
- clever
The Kanji MEGUMI is full of good meanings and is one of the most popular characters for names in Japan. The top part of the symbol represents “spool”, and the bottom one pictures “heart.” They express that you have a lot of treasures in your heart or that you keep considering others as winding a thread.
Is Megumi a Name for Girls?
The name MEGUMI can be used both for boys and girls, but it’s mostly given to girls. In Jujutsu Kaisen episode 9, Fushiguro said about his dad like this:
“a man who named me Meumi, not even knowing my gender”
If his daddy, Fushiguro Toji knew his baby was a boy, he would have given him a more manly name. But he didn’t since he wasn’t interested in his baby. This line implies that.
Last Name FUSHIGURO

FUSHI = drop, lower
GURO = black
As I said first, FUSHIGURO is a plant name. It’s called Silene firma in English and belongs to Caryophyllaceae. The Fushiguro flowers are tiny and somber while other Caryophyllaceous plants have gorgeous and lovely flowers. Silene firma stays modest and quiet. It reminds us of the Fushiguro family under the Zenin family.

Other than Fushiguro, some characters in Jujutsu Kaisen have plant-derived names. I think the author Akutami Gege chose them on purpose depending on the features of the characters.
