This post includes significant spoilers about Jujutsu Kaisen main story.
Please don’t go any further if you can’t accept it.
……are you ready?
OK, now let’s go!
Is it true that Nanami Kento died?
Unfortunately, his death is TRUE. He died in the battle at the hand of the cursed spirit Mahito. I was so much sadder when his death was determined in Jujutsu Kaisen manga 😭
IN WHICH CHAPTER NANAMI DIED?
It happened in episode 120. You can read the episode in Jujutsu Kaisen comic vol. 12.
The beginning of this tragedy is a large-scale conflict between Jujutsu sorcerers and cursed spirits called “Shibuya Jihen”. It’s translated as Shibuya Incident Arc in English.
The cursed spirit group led by Geto Suguru attacked Shibuya city. They created huge curtains and enclosed citizens inside the area.
All the Jujutsu sorcerers went to Shibuya and fierce battles occurred. Of course, Nanamin was there. He showed the right strength as a first-grade Jujutsu sorcerer and drove away enemies.
But in consecutive battles, he lost his left eye and made his body burnt. He confronted Mahito with this fatally injured body and ended up losing.
He was killed by Mahito in front of Itadori Yuji.
Nanami Kento’s last words was “I’ll leave the rest to you.”.
NANAMIN’S DEATH WAS ESSENTIAL FOR ITADORI?
In a TV program broadcasted in Japan, the author of Jujutsu Kaisen Akutami Gege told that Nanamin’s death was planned at the begenning.
According to him, the death was essential to break his heart.
What does he mean?
I think he’s trying to say it was needed for describing Itadori’s growth as the main character of the story.
He also says “I don’t care who dies and how dark and gloomy the story becomes. It’s okay if that makes the story more interesting”.
Oh… he’s very objective against his works…
Yes. It seems Nanamin was originally destined to die and it was inevitable. So SAD even if it was necessary for the story 😭
I love Nanamin and the last scene was really shocking. He was real cool, mature, and more than anything, he was a gentle person… I MISS YOU!!!
The Shibuya Incident Arc starts from comic vol. 10 to 16. This is the most exciting episode in Jujutsu Kaisen so far and it’s worth reading though the story is a bit hard to see!
