This kanji has various meanings and usages, but when you use it alone, it basically means wind.

Background
The origin of the wind kanji letter is interesting. In old times, people thought that wind is produced by a big holy bird. They pictured the bird and made the OOTORI symbol below to mean “big bird” and “wind”.

But later, people changed their mind that it’s not the bird but the dragon that dominates and produces wind. So they made a new kanji symbol that has a dragon shape. This is the current wind kanji character we use.
