Hi, it’s Junko from Japan! Kibutsuji Muzan and Ubuyashiki Kagaya are from the same family. That’s why Muzan and Kagaya look very similar to each other. According to Mr. Gotoge, “They’re like two peas in a pod.”
Muzan Is Originally from the Ubuyashiki Family
Muzan was born into a noble family in the Heian era in Japan. It’s not mentioned whether his original family name was Ubuyashiki or not, but it’s clear that Muzan belonged to the same family as the Ubuyashiki clan.
Since Muzan became a demon, the Ubuyashiki clan got cursed, and that caused their early death. For the Ubuyashiki family, destroying Muzan is the only way to break the curse, and therefore they continued fighting against demons for generations by organizing the Demon Slayer Corps.
Kagaya isn’t a direct descendant of Kibutsuji Muzan, and more than a thousand years have passed since when Muzan was born in the Heian era. So their blood ties must be weak, yet they have the same faces. It might imply their fate to settle their long battles.
For your information, Muzan had five wives in total when he was a human. But he pushed all of them into a mental breakdown and drove them to commit suicide. It seems he was evil even when he wasn’t a demon.
As Doma does, Muzan’s personality may have remained the same before and after becoming a demon. It’s possible that he hasn’t changed at all.
