Hi, it’s Junko from Japan! Does Kocho Shinobu die in Demon Slayer? Yes, unfortunately, Shinobu dies at the end part of the story.
Shinobu’s Death: How Did She Die?
Shinobu got killed by Doma, the Upper Rank 2 of Twelve Demon Kizuki. Doma is a demon who killed her older sister, Kocho Kanae, and destroying Doma was one of her goals as a Demon Slayer swordsman.
But the strength of the Upper Rank demons is equivalent to at least three members of Hashira. When it comes to Upper Rank 2, its power was immeasurable.
Shinobu knew that better than anyone, so she made a plan to defeat Doma. Her plan was fierce, and it even included her own death. Yes, she was prepared to die from the beginning and got killed by Doma on purpose.
Then what was her plan? I’ll share it step by step.
Took the Wisteria Poison
Shinobu had kept taking the wisteria poison for a year. Since she could inject only a limited amount of poison with her Nichirin sword, she devised to make herself poison.
If her entire body became poison and let a demon take in, it makes possible to inject massive amount of the wisteria poison into the demon. Shinobu carried out the idea and secretly continued having poison.
Zenitsu noticed that her “sound” was strange and was different from the one of normal human. It was probably because of the affection of taking poison.
Based on her estimation, Shinobu’s desperate plan involves injecting Doma’s body with a poison dose 700 times greater than the lethal amount.
Let Doma Eat Her Body
Shinobu believed that Dome would eat her since he preferred to eat women and would never miss a strong individual like Hashira. Letting him eat her body was a critical matter to destroy his body from the inside.
Just as planned, Doma absorbed Shinobu’s body after knocking her down. There Kanao arrived them. She had to witness Shinobu’s death in front of her eyes.
Asked Kanao to Cut off Doma’s Head
Shinobu asked Kanao to cut Doma’s head off to give him a final blow. Shinobu expected that the wisteria poison wouldn’t be enough to kill him even if it could weaken him.
Kanao fought well and earned enough time for Shinobu’s poison to undermine Doma. Finally, the poison started to melt Doma’s body. Kanao performed the final form of Flower Breathing and tried to cut his head off.
Her attack was shallow and didn’t make a fatal blow, but with Inosuke’s support, they succeeded in cutting Doma’s head off and destroying him.
The Last Talk with Doma
After Doma’s body vanished, Shinobu and Doma had a short talk in darkness, which gave him an exciting feeling he felt first time in his life. He asked Shinobu to go to hell together, but she declined it with a smile.
“Die already, you piece of shit.”
I saw the line was translated as “After you, you worthless bastard” in the English edition, but it becomes like the above if I translate it faithfully to the original Japanese one. She uses dirty and rough words while having an elegant smile on her face.
In the original Japanese, Shinobu always talks in a very polite tone. So this one scene left a strong impact.
For your information, the original Japanese phrase in the image is:
Tottoto kutabare kusoyaro.
(quickly, drop dead, shit guy)
It’s an apparent abuse. Never say it to others!
