Hi, it’s Junko from Japan again! Have you ever wondered, “Who is Muzan’s favorite demon?” Today, I’m going to share information about five demons that Muzan values, based on insights from the official Demon Slayer fan books!
Kokushibo: The Strongest Partner
The oldest and strongest demon of the Upper Rank 1. Muzan highly values his strength and analytical ability and trusts him as a business partner.
Also, Kokushibo is very faithful to Muzan and tough on hierarchies, which shows he never has the intention to betray him.
Muzan’s ability to read demons’ minds usually terrifies them, but not Kokushibo. His samurai background means he’s used to clear hierarchical relationships and doesn’t feel the need to hide his emotions from Muzan.
For your information, the reason why Kokushibo is strict with the chain of command is that he was born into a Samurai family. In the old Samurai families of Japan, it was highly valued to clearly establish the hierarchical relationship between lord and vassal to avoid disputes over succession. In a way, Kokushibo is accustomed to following hierarchical orders.
Akaza: Loyal Subordinate
Despite Muzan’s apparent harshness, Akaza is one of his favorite demons. His loyalty and combat experience are highly valued. Muzan often entrusts him with important missions, like searching for blue spider lilies.
Muzan’s fondness for Akaza is also evident in his tolerance of Akaza’s decision not to harm women.
According to the official fan book, Akaza spends more time training than eating humans. Yet he’s strong enough to stay Upper Rank 3, and I think that’s why Muzan doesn’t blame him.
Gyutaro: Greedy Demon
Muzan recognizes Gyutaro’s greediness and combat ability, even though he views his sister Daki as a burden.
It seems that Muzan’s preferences are based on three main criteria: loyalty and the lack of betrayal, usefulness, and the loss of humanity. Gyutaro meets these criteria with his strength and greed. Given Daki’s devotion to Muzan, the likelihood of Gyutaro betraying Muzan is low. Therefore, it’s reasonable to say that Gyutaro embodies all three conditions and is counted as Muzan’s favorite.
Gyokko: Useful Money Resource
Muzan liked the pots Gyokko makes since they are quite beautiful and sell high. It apepars he was Muzan’s favorite as a money resource.
Nakime: Unique Space Control Ability
Nakime has worked for Muzan before she became a member of the Twelve Kizuki. I guess her unique ability to control space and create the Mugen Castle come in handy for Muzan.

By the way, did you know how she become a demon? I thought she was a tragic woman like Tamayo, but that wasn’t.
She was a Biwa (mandolin-like Asian instrument) player before becoming a demon, but her life was poor. One day, her gambling addiction husband sold her only precious Kimono, which led her to kill him with a metal hammer. The Biwa performance after the murder was brilliant.
She got to kill someone before her musical performance for the better sound and happened to target Muzan. Of course, Muzan killed her back but liked her (maybe her craziness and greediness) and made her a demon.
It’s unexpected Nakime was a serial killer. She rocks!
Rui: Potential Lower Moon Demon
It seems Rui was by far Muzan’s favorite demon. Muzan paid an attention on Rui’s potential and expected that he would eventually grow strong enough to defeat the Hashira swordsmen.
The official fan book reveals the fact that Muzan visited and encouraged him several times a month. Despite being Lower Rank 5, Rui was stronger than Enmu, Lower Rank 1, but had no interest in promotion.
To get promoted in Twelve Kizuki, a demon must challenge and destroy the upper demon. But Rui had no interest in promotion and stayed at the Lower Rank 5.
If his ability excels the Lower Rank 1, it means his level is close to the Upper Moon demons and I’m convinced how high Muzan valued him.
