Hi, it’s Junko from Japan! Doma willingly became a demon when he met Kibutsuji Muzan, which makes his history quite unique among all the demons in Demon Slayer.
I’ll share details from his past based on the official Demon Slayer fan books released in Japan!
The Unconventional Path to Demonhood: Why Doma Became a Demon
While most individuals become demons as a desperate act to escape death, Doma chose this path willingly. He met Muzan Kibutsuji at age 20 and saw him as a deity.
His transformation into a demon was not out of desperation but a result of his admiration for Muzan.
A Unique Encounter: Doma and Muzan
The details surrounding how Doma and Muzan met remain undisclosed, but it’s known that this meeting was emotionally significant for Doma, who otherwise lacks the range of human feelings like joy or sorrow.
Demons often lose their human memories and undergo a drastic change in personality. However, Doma’s character and memories remained unchanged from his human days, making him an anomaly among the Twelve Kizuki.
A Face as a Cult Leader
Before and after his transformation, Doma held the position of a religious cult leader. Born with rainbow-colored eyes, he was proclaimed a divine child by his parents who then gathered followers.
A family tragedy struck when his mother killed his father over his affairs, and then took her own life. Doma’s meeting with Muzan occurred after this life-altering event.
Doma’s Twisted Mission: The Dark Side of Salvation
As a demon, Doma embarked on a warped mission to “save” humanity by consuming them, thus making them a part of his eternal existence. After meeting Muzan, his religion clearly defined Muzan as a god and shifted to worshipping him.
Initially one of the Upper Ranks Six, Doma ascended to Upper Rank Two, likely by continuously feasting on his followers.
Despite spending more time on training than eating humans, Akaza was never able to surpass Doma. This episode reveals that for demons, strength is directly linked to consuming humans.
At the same time, it also suggests how many humans Doma, who holds the position of Upper Rank Two, must have eaten.
Muzan’s Perspective: An Unlikely Evaluation
Despite his power, Doma isn’t highly valued by Muzan. Muzan believes that without strong desires, a demon can’t evolve, and Doma’s lack of emotions makes him less appealing to Muzan.
