Hi, it’s Junko from Japan! I see many fans of the anime, ‘Jujutsu Kaisen’, are curious about the characters and their relationships. They often ask, ‘Is Yuta in Jujutsu Kaisen related to Gojo?’
The answer is, YES, they are!
Okkotsu Yuta and Gojo Satoru are more than just characters in an anime—they are distant relatives, even though they have different family names. This might help answer the common query about the relationship between these two characters.
Yuta Is a Descendant of Sugawara Michizane
In the last part of the Jujutsu Kaisen 0 story, Ijichi Kiyotaka’s (four-eyes guy in a black suit) research revealed a fascinating piece of history—that Yuta was a descendant of Sugawara Michizane, an existing historical figure in Japan.
This revelation might spark curiosity and lead to questions like, ‘Is Yuta related to Gojo?’ Also, the fact
In the universe of Jujutsu Kaisen, the Gojo family is also considered a descendant of the Sugawara family. So, that makes them distant relatives. This answers the question ‘How are Gojo and Yuta related?’ and adds a layer of depth to the characters’ backstory.
Sugawara Michizane is a famous scholar and politician in the Heian era in Japan who lived in the 800s. We all know his name since we learn about it in a Japanese history class.
But his name is known not only as a talented politician. He has another fearful face.
One of the Strongest Curses in the Japanese History
When it comes to Sugawara Michizane, it’s one of the three biggest curses in Japanese history. Michizane was an excellent politician and served well to the Emperor at that time, but he ended up getting demoted with a false accusation and died a miserable death.
After his death, numerous calamities hit Kyoto city where the Emperor dwelled. Many people died by lightning struck, and even the Emperor and his prince deceased of unknown diseases.
People believed that all these things were caused by Sugawara Michizane’s curse. The Emperor built a shrine and enshrined Michizane as a god to calm his spirit and break the curse.
The shrine was named KITANO TENMANGU and still exists in Kyoto. Now sir Michizane is respected as a god who governs learning and lightning.
Back to Jujutsu Kaisen, Yuta and Gojo are both related to one of the worst curses in Japanese history. I think that’s why they have a tremendous amount of cursed energy.
Does the Gojo Family Really Exist?
Yes, it exists! It’s told Michizane had more than 15 children, and 6 families were built by them. The Gojo family is one of them.
Also, there are still many people who name the descendants of the Sugawara family. Some Japanese politicians and celebrities have announced that they have the Sugawara family blood.
Here I introduce one of them. She’s a Japanese actress in the 1930s, Irie Takako. Takako was from a noble family that was a genuine and direct descendant of Sugawara Michizane.

There must be much more offspring in ordinary people, and it’s no wonder if Okkotsu Yuta is one of them. So, there you have it. Okkotsu Yuta and Gojo Satoru are indeed related, and their relationship has a significant impact on the story and the world of Jujutsu Kaisen.
