Is Tanjiro’s Wife Really Kanao?

In the captivating finale of the Demon Slayer manga series, we’re given a sneak peek into the future with the children of Kamado Tanjiro and Tsuyuri Kanao making an appearance.

The cherry on top is a heartwarming illustration of Tanjiro and Kanao, their faces radiating happiness, which subtly confirms their marital bond. This elegantly addresses the sought-after question, “Who is Tanjiro Kamado’s wife?”

How Does Tanjiro Get Married?

A marriage scene between Tanjiro and Kanao has not been described in original manga or official fan books. So we can’t know the exact process of how they get married.

However, as for Kanao, a sequel was printed in the official fan book of Demon Slayer. According to the book, Kanao went back to the Butterfly Mansion and live together with Aoi after the final battle.

It seems Kanao inherited the will of Kocho Shinobu, and provides a medical treatment to Tanjiro and other Demon Slayer Corps swordsmen. Tanjiro is one of her patients and he goes to see Kanao for a medical check-up once a month. I guess their relationship got closer throughout the regular visits.

Did Tanjiro Live Past 25?

As you know, the marked individuals can’t survive past 25. Then how old was Tanjiro could live? The lifespan of the marked swordsmen is never told in any episodes or related publications. Maybe Mr. Gotoge, the author of Demon Slayer, left it unknown on purpose.

If following the rules, Tanjiro must have passed away at around age 25, leaving his wife and children. In fact, though it was before he gets married to Kanao, Tanjiro tried to save money for Nezuko in the official fan book 2. He probably accepted his fate to die at 25 years old and tried to prepare for his death.

But I want to expect that he lived longer since he was a successor of the Sun Breathing and completed all the forms.

There were two individuals who lived beyond the age of 25. It’s Yoriichi and Kamado Tanjuro, Tanjiro’s father. Both of the two were born with marks and mastered the entire Sun Breathing forms.

As a result, both Yoriichi and Tanjuro lived beyond 25. There may be a possibility that the Sun Breathing and marks can go together.

On the other hand, the mark is explained as an “advance loan in one’s life.” It’s said the heart rate a person can have in a lifetime is limited. If you consume a lot of heart rate with a mark, it eventually reduces your lifespan. The marked individuals boost and burn their life power.

But Tanjiro became a demon once by Muzan, and his body was regenerated. If his life energy consumed by the mark was reset at that time, he might have been able to live with his original lifespan.

Hopefully, it was, and Kamado Tanjiro could spend a longer time with Tsuyuri Kanao, no, Kamado Kanao!
