Hi there, Junko from Japan here! Tanjiro’s family was killed by a demon, but who was it? It was revealed to be Kibutsuji Muzan in the very last part of Demon Slayer episodes.
Muzan visited the Kamado house and killed Tanjiro’s mom and siblings. Nezuko watched everything and regained the memory when she turned back into a human.
Why Did Muzan Killed Tanjiro’s Family?
But why did Muzan take the trouble to visit them by himself? Was he there on purpose? I think it’s not. Muzan didn’t recognize the Kamado family and the Hinokami Kagura they have inherited for generations.
Muzan extremely fears the Sun Breathing. When he came across Yoriichi and almost died with his sword, Muzan escaped and kept hiding for decades until he could confirm Yoriichi’s death. Muzan is scared of the Sun Breathing as much as that.
So if Muzan already knew the connection between the Kamado family and Yoriichi, he would never visit there alone and would use his demon subordinates. Surviving is the most important priority for Kibutsuji Muzan, and he doesn’t stick to other things. There’s no need to risk his own life to see someone related to the Sun Breathing.
For these reasons, I suppose Muzan happened to be around the Kamado house and killed Tanjiro’s family simply because they were there.
Though it’s not described in Demon Slayer episodes, I suppose Muzan had killed many people and given his blood to make the demon who could resist the sunshine. His ultimate goal is to conquer the sun and become the complete creature. For this purpose, he has tried to make the sun-resistant demon so that he would absorb it and make its ability his own.
The Kamado house was in the suburbs of Tokyo, and the Asakusa city where Tanjiro first met Muzan was also in Tokyo. Can’t you guess that Muzan sometimes went to the outskirts and randomly hunted humans?
