Hi, Junko from Japan here! Why did TOMIOKA GIYU cut his hair at the end of Demon Slayer? The reason why Giyu cut his hair short isn’t mentioned in the episodes. But I guess it’s because he lost one of his arms and can’t tie his hair by himself anymore.
Is There a Cultural Reason Behind Giyu’s Haircut?
In Japan, cutting hair sometimes expresses a strong determination. Especialy in Buddhism, shaving your hair is an important ritual for becoming a Buddhist monk or nun.
In Giyu’s case, if cutting hair shows his determination, he would have done it already when he became a Demon Slayer Corps swordsman. But he didn’t. So it seems he cut his hair just for a practical reason.
I hope the true reason will be revealed in the official Demon Slayer fan book series someday!
