Hi, Junko from Japan here! Ready to jump into the thrilling world of Jujutsu Kaisen? Today, we’ll specifically explore all special grade sorcerers and the unique ranking system that sets the stage for this compelling story.

Now, let’s delve into the profiles of the four special grade sorcerers in Jujutsu Kaisen: Gojo Satoru, Geto Suguru, Tsukumo Yuki, and Okkotsu Yuta.

Attention: This post contains spoilers for the manga version of Jujutsu Kaisen. If you’ve only seen the anime or don’t want to see any spoilers, please be careful when reading!

Gojo Satoru – The Power of Limitless

Gojo Satoru, a professor at Tokyo Jujutsu High, known for his limitless power and the Six Eyes, is said to affect the power balance between humans and cursed spirits with his very existence. His power stands out even among all special grade sorcerers.

His cursed technique makes “limitless” the realization. Any physical things will slow down as they become closer to Gojo Satoru, and they can never touch him.

This technique demands severe control of one’s cursed energy, which eventually burns one’s brain out if you always activate it. But Gojo Satoru makes it possible by healing himself with the Reverse Cursed Technique.

Geto Suguru – The Master of Cursed Spirits

Geto Suguru was the best friend of Gojo Satoru in their high school days.

He had the desire to create a world where only Jujutsu sorcerers are allowed to live. As a result, he caused a Jujutsu terrorist attack named Hyakki Yako (The Night Parade of a Hundred Demons) and was executed as a principal by Gojo’s hand.

His skill, Jurei Sojutsu (Cursed Spirit Manipulation) is a Pokemon-ish technique that absorbs and controls the cursed spirits. There’s no limit to the number of spirits he can absorb. It seems he had more than 6400 spirits with him when he carried out The Night Parade of a Hundred Demons.

He must have been dead but showed up as a person who’s on the cursed spirits’ side in the main episodes of Jujutsu Kaisen. Later, the truth was revealed that his body was stolen by someone.

According to the interview with Akutami Gege, the author of Jujutsu Kaisen, in a Japanese TV program, Geto Suguru is determined while Gojo Satoru is naturally gifted.

Tsukumo Yuki – The Wanderer with a Vision

Tsukumo Yuki is a female Jujutsu sorcerer with blonde hair and a hilarious personality. She asks people she first meets what type of women they are attracted to. Todo Aoi is her apprentice, and he inherited this habit from her.

She believes that she can create a world with no curse by removing the original source of the curse from this world. That’s why she doesn’t accept the missions and is wandering in foreign countries for her research.

Her ultimate goal is to find a way to break away from the cursed energy. If no one has any cursed energy, humans will be freed from it.

When it comes to her cursed technique, she showed Hoshi no Ikari (Star Rage) which gives her virtual mass. Since it’s virtual, Tsukumo can easily move even though she had a 1-ton weight on her body. That allows her to blow incredibly powerful physical attacks at opponents.

Considering the condition of the special grade, we can guess she has more powerful techniques enough to destroy a nation.

Okkotsu Yuta – The Cursed Energy Prodigy

Okkotsu Yuta, a second-grade student of Tokyo Jujutsu High, which is a school dedicated to training jujutsu sorcerers, was obsessed with the special grade cursed spirit Orimoto Rika, which caused him to harm others. With a guide by Gojo Satoru, he entered Tokyo Jujutsu High to break her curse.

Later, the truth came out that it was not Rika but Okkotsu himself who cursed Rika and made her the cursed spirit. After finding the fact, Okkotsu broke the curse by himself, and Rika’s soul was purified.

Okkotsu Yuta was demoted to the fourth grade since he lost the special ranked spirit Rika but was promoted to the special grade merely 3 months later.

What makes Okkotsu exceptional is his massive amount of cursed energy, a key aspect in the world of Jujutsu Kaisen. Thanks to this extraordinary energy, he can enhance his physical ability and shows outstanding swordsmanship with a Japanese Katana.

Though he lost the original Rika, now he brings a new Rika with him and uses it as his cursed technique. This new Rika is like an external hard disc for him, and she can stock cursed energy and cursed techniques copied from other sorcerers.

Okkotsu can cast them by connecting her via a ring the original Rika left him. But the connection time is limited to 5 minutes.

For your information, the new Rika’s name is spelled in Japanese Katakana letters while the original one is written in Kanji symbols.

What Grade Is Yuji Itadori?

The grade of Itadori Yuji is not explicitly stated in the story. However, he has been recommended for First Grade status by Todo Aoi and Meimei.

According to the rules of Jujutsu Kaisen, only sorcerers of Second Grade or higher can receive recommendations for First Grade, so it’s believed that Itadori’s abilities are considered to be at the Second Grade level.

Ryomen Sukuna, who resides within Itadori’s body, is regarded as special grade cursed object. Although Itadori is a “vessel hosting a special grade cursed spirit,” he can’t control Sukuna’s power, so he is not evaluated as a special grade sorcerer.

The Jujutsu Kaisen Grade Ranking System

The sorcerer ranks in Jujutsu Kaisen range from the fourth grade to the special grade, totaling eight grades. Each grade represents a sorcerer’s power level, and the reward for exorcising curses changes according to it.

Here are the eight grades:

  • Special Grade
  • Special First Grade
  • First Grade
  • Semi-First Grade
  • Second Grade
  • Semi-Second Grade
  • Third Grade
  • Fourth Grade

The special first grade represents non-graduate sorcerers recognized to have power equivalent to the first grade. The Zenin family sorcerers, known for their exceptional skills in exorcising curses, are the notable examples in the series.

Sorcerers receive various types of missions based on their ranks, including exorcising curses, protecting people, or investigating paranormal activities.

Sorcerers below the third grade are required to operate in teams to ensure safety and efficacy, while those who have achieved second grade or above have the privilege to undertake missions alone, showcasing their individual skills.

Special grade sorcerers are so powerful that they could potentially overthrow a nation single-handedly. The difference between the first grade and the special grade is so vast that it cannot be bridged through effort alone.

To sum up, the special grade sorcerers and the ranking system are key elements in the world of Jujutsu Kaisen. Understanding these aspects helps us appreciate the complexities of the characters and the thrilling storyline even more!
