Hi, Junko from Japan here! Who is Lady Tamayo in Demon Slayer?
Tamayo is an exceptional demon who has been freed from Muzan’s curse and aimed to destroy Muzan. She has advanced medical skills and gives her treatment to humans even though she’s a demon.
On the other hand, she’s researching demons’ bodies and blood to find out the ways to kill Kibutsuji Muzan.
How Did She Become a Demon?
Tamayo has been a demon for more than 400 years while her body and appearance are the ones at 19 years old. I think she looks mature for her age!
Lady Tamayo is older than Kokusibo, and she’s probably one of the oldest demons who still exist.
She was originally a weak woman who suffered from illness. and only a short time was left for her to live. Muzan appeared there and offered her a way to prolong her life.
Tamayo desired to watch her child grow, which is why she followed Muzan without knowing the exact nature of his proposal. That created a tragedy.
Muzan made her a demon. She lost her reason when turning into a demon and ended up killing her husband and a child with her own hands. The incident drove her insane, and Tamayo went on to kill many more people.
Why Could Tamayo Be Freed from Muzan?
One day, Muzan and Tamayo came across Tsugikuni Yoriichi, the founder of Sun Breathing. His sword skill was overwhelming enough to destroy Muzan. Yet Muzan managed to run away from him by splitting his body into small pieces.
Due to the weakening of Muzan, Tamayo was temporarily freed from Muzan’s curse. Yoriichi didn’t kill her and let her go since he recognized her strong hatred for Muzan.
It seems Yoriichi reported about her to the Oyakata-sama (the head of the Ubuyashiki family) at that time. Therefore the successive Oyakata-sama knew that there was a demon named Tamayo who was hostile to Muzan.
How Did Tamayo Break the Muzan’s Curse?
After parting with Yoriichi, Tamayo desperately survived by eating dead animals and corpses, not living humans. During Muzan was weak and hid from Yoriichi, she obtained medical skills including surgical operations and remodeled her body.
As a result, Tamayo broke the Muzan’s curse and came to be able to live with only a few amount of human blood. She’s the first demon who completely broke Muzan’s curse and became free from his restriction.
Normal demons can’t eat human food, but Lady Tamayo changed her constitution and can enjoy having tea!
Made Yushiro a Demon
Tamayo worked as a doctor, and Yushiro was one of her patients. Yushiro suffered from an incurable disease, and there were no other ways to save him than making him into a demon.
Tamayo asked him: Do you want to survive even though you became a demon? Yushiro accepted it and Tamayo made him a demon.
His life was saved by Tamayo, and so he admires Lady Tamayo as if she were a goddess. Yushiro is the only demon Tamayo could make. It seems she had given her remedy to others, but they all fell through. I can say he’s the fruit of her research that reached hundreds of years.
For your information, Yushiro is 35 years old while his appearance looks like a teenager. I think his personality is a bit childish for his actual age! (But that’s cute about him.)
The Key Person in the Final Battle
In the final battle against Muzan, she plays the most important role together with Kocho Shinobu. They carried out joint research and developed several medicines that were essential for the fight.
